The ocean is filled with many interesting creatures. Some of them are real and some of them are stuff of lore. Many a tale of Neptune, Davy Jones Locker and mermaids are told over a pint of ale.
A half fish, half human creature of the ocean is a mermaid. She lures her inspecting victims with her beauty and drags them below the surface of the water. Apparently she is a mixture of the earth and ocean. The mermaid represented the mystery of the sea to the Greeks. What did become of those unfortunate sailors?
Of course, this is more Greek mythology than anything else is, but there are people who perform as mermaids. These women with tails are still beautiful.
